چکیده

Atomic carbon (CI) has been proposed to be a global tracer of the molecular gas as substitute for CO, however, its utility remains unproven. To evaluate suitability CI tracer, we performed [CI]$(^3P_1-^3P_0)$ (hereinafter [CI](1-0)) mapping observations northern part nearby spiral galaxy M83 with ASTE telescope and compared distributions [CI](1-0) CO lines (CO(1-0), CO(3-2), $^{13}$CO(1-0)), HI, infrared (IR) emission (70, 160, 250$ \mu$m). The distribution in central region is similar that lines, whereas arm distributed outside CO. We examined dust temperature, $T_{\rm dust}$, mass surface density, $\Sigma_{\rm by fitting IR continuum-spectrum single-temperature modified blackbody. dust}$ shows much better consistency integrated intensity CO(1-0) than [CI](1-0), indicating good cold gas. spatial [CI] excitation ex}$, was using ratio two transitions. An appropriate ex}$ at central, bar, arm, inter-arm regions yields constant [C]/[H$_2$] abundance $\sim7 \times 10^{-5}$ within range 0.1 dex all regions. successfully detected weak emission, even region, addition bar regions, spectral stacking analysis. stacked found strongly correlated dust}$. Our results indicate atomic photodissociation product consequently, CO(1-0), less reliable tracing bulk "cold" galactic disk.

High - Velocity Clouds in the Nearby Spiral Galaxy M 83

We present deep H I 21-cm and optical observations of the face-on spiral galaxy M 83 obtained as part of a project to search for high-velocity clouds (HVCs) in nearby galaxies. Anomalous-velocity neutral gas is detected toward M 83, with 5.6×10 M⊙ of H I contained in a disk rotating 40–50 km s more slowly in projection than the bulk of the gas. We interpret this as a vertically extended thick d...

PSPC X - ray observations of the nearby spiral galaxy M 83

The nearly face-on SBc galaxy M83 (NGC 5236) was observed for 25 ksec with the ROSAT PSPC. We detected 13 point-like sources in this galaxy, 10 of which were previously unknown, down to a limiting luminosity of ∼ 0.8 · 10 38 erg s −1 (for D=8.9 Mpc). Eight of these sources are positionally associated with H ii regions and/or H i voids, suggesting an association with the younger stellar populati...

Molecular gas in the galaxy M 83 ⋆ II . Kinematics of the molecular gas

We present the kinematics of the molecular gas in the barred spiral galaxy M83 (NGC5236). The study is based on CO(J=1–0 and 2–1) observations with the Swedish-ESO Submillimetre Telescope (SEST). Iso-velocity maps of the entire optical disk, 10 × 10 or 13× 13 kpc, are produced. They show the pattern of an inclined, rotating disk, but also the effects of streaming motions along the spiral arms. ...

Molecular gas in the galaxy M 83 I . The molecular gas distribution

We present CO J=1–0 and J=2–1 Swedish-ESO Submillimetre Telescope (SEST) observations of the barred spiral galaxy M83 (NGC5236). The size of the CO maps is 10×10 and they cover the entire optical disk. The grid spacing is 11 for CO(J=1–0) and 11 or 7 for CO(J=2–1) depending on the position in the galaxy. In total we have obtained spectra in 1900 and 2574 positions in the CO(J=1–0) and CO(J=2–1)...
